No. Both the ClearCaptions Phone and the captioning service are provided to qualified U.S. residents at no cost. The phone hardware is provided free of charge, and the IP CTS captioning service is funded through a federally-managed Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) fund administered by the FCC.
The ClearCaptions Phone displays phone captions on an easy-to-use touchscreen display. Title IV of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) makes this service available at no cost to qualified U.S. residents.
ClearCaptions is a specially designed caption phone created to support individuals who are hard of hearing, making it easier to communicate over the phone. The phone connects to your existing telephone service and internet. As the caller speaks, captions display on the attached screen so you can read along with the conversation while listening to the caller’s voice.
ClearCaptions provides an Internet Protocol Captioning Telephone Service (IP CTS) that converts spoken words into text captions during phone calls. When you receive or make a call, the words your callers say appear as captions on your phone’s screen.
ClearCaptions is available to qualified, hard-of-hearing U.S. residents at no cost as part of Title IV of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As part of the ADA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires telephone and internet companies to contribute to the Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) fund. The FCC manages the TRS fund and compensates service providers like ClearCaptions for providing IP CTS. That’s how we’re able to make captioned calls available at no cost to eligible individuals.
